PROJECTS

WHO: Keeton Industries, Inc. & Keeton Technologies, LLC
WHAT: Pilot Intensive Indoor Shrimp Farm
WHERE: Detroit, Michigan  USA

10-26-2011 ~ Keeton Industries, Inc. and Keeton Technologies, LLC have designed a zero exchange, intensive indoor shrimp farm at Walled Lake Veterinary Clinic, Michigan for Mr. Steven Sajewski and Dr. Steve Burns. The zero exchange intensive system will grow Litopenaeus vannamei (Pacific White Shrimp).

The pilot project, with one raceway and 7000 gallons, was designed to support very high densities of 500 shrimp per cubic meter of water. Sajewski/Burns aquafarm is a 100% recirculating system with aeration, oxygen supplementation, solids filtration and biofiltration. It is a hybrid system utilizing a combination of bacterial floc and clear water, supported by addition of probiotic and waste reducing microbes that will break down excess waste from feeds, while providing a high protein floc to supplement shrimp nutrition. An FCR (feed conversion ratio) on 1.2 -1.5 is expected.

The first 30,000 post larval shrimp will arrive in the first week of December to for grow-out, estimated to be ready in 85 days with a suspected crop rotation of 3.7 crops per year. Based upon performance Keeton will design the next commercial phase of the project and become a full partner in a large expansion project. A very large commercial building with waste heat and energy has already been secured for the expansion project. More to come…
